Printerrepairpros advice was good, that is always where I start. I generally always remove the pump and clean it along with the wiper blade. I would check the pump first.
I m pretty sure that it s not the pump though. The ribbon cable short most likely blew a fuse on the mainboard. The fuse is not the kind of fuse you can just look at and see it s blown. The way to test it it to install another known good head. If it doesn t print, the pump is working and the cable is good then it s almost definitely the mainboard. MacMedia is a wide format supply company that repairs boards. Not sure if they work on 3000 boards but it s worth a call. It will be much cheaper than buying a new board.

I just received a quote for replacing a print head of 76.98 plus shipping. The repair guy said that the servicing station is usually bad as well, but that he is not sure it is available. Is it a waste of money to have him change out the print head if I cannot get a servicing station. How much did you pay for your print head.

Before you spend money on the service station pump cap assembly in the printer test it to make sure that it has failed. Put some water on both the black and color cap assembly pads the printheads rest on them when the carriage assembly is in the parked home position. Turn the printer on and let it go through its initialization sequence. Turn it off and look at the two pads. If the water has been sucked throught BOTH it is likely that the pump is good. Replacing the printheads is a totally different process from replacing the pump assembly. Don t forget that there are two printheads in this unit, black and color.

after spending long hours,i found this site.I have a stylus 3000 printer,that just cost me about the same as a new one in repairs,but funds are not therew to replace.Can you maybe help me with the service manual and software.They replaced the black head,but now i have plenty of banding on my cyan,and the colours are horrible.Previous i ran it on win 2000 but now had also to change over to win xp,with sevice pack 2.dont know if that can influence my printer driver.It seems the cyan head fires some nozzles at random if printing specially photo,s.Thin blue lines at random all over the page.

Thin blue lines usually mean that the printhead is failing.

Super i find someone, that can help me to fix my printer, i just bought the printer and in worked the last time about 6 month a go. Now after i have it here and i put new inks in it the printer doesn t print not one single dot on the paper. I called epson and they say that i need to change the heads and would cost me 320. If you could help me out to safe some money by this that would be great.

You can buy the heads for about 40 each.
I would have thought 1 hour labour. 2 hours max.
You could have a go yourself but it is an awkward job both to replace the heads and set the height and tilt adjustments.
If it is not set correctly there will be gaps or overlaps between the colours.

For some reason the black head is not listed, so give them a ring.
You could take/send it somewhere for repair.
If you send it, make sure you follow the instructions on the ink cartridge flap - Remove inks THEN power down to empty ink system.
Give Equinox a call on 01684 290000, they can do onsite or RTB repair and should be able to do it for alot less than 320.

We could use the manual. Replacing black head.
Before you remove the printhead make sure that the pump is functioning. Put some water on the smaller of the two foam pads on the cap assembly and then run a black cleaning cycle. Make sure that the water was sucked into the pad. If not the pump is most likely failing.
we used the thermonoclear solution and now we are not getting any printing. It works like it is printing but the paper is blank so I am thinking it must be the print heads. any info would be totally appreciated.

I have cleaned the heads. Ink is passing through the heads during the cleaning cycle. I can tell by the color on the foam below the print heads I previously cleaned the foam removing most of the color . However during print test LF/TURN ON black and yellow print all nozzles just fine, a few nozzles of red will print and occasionally a blue will print one or two nozzles only.
What are the chances that the print head ribbon cable has shifted or shrunk in width so that it is not making good contact with the print head connector.
Any other thoughts about what might be the problem.
If the black is OK and you are getting some color, the color printhead has probably failed.

Check to see whether there is ink in the damper plastic assembly that fits on top of the black printhead nozzle. If not, you need to suck some ink into the damper and fill it about half way. Then run a cleaning cycle and see whether it prints. Also, make sure that you have a good seal where the tube feeds into the damper and where the damper sets upon the printhead. There should be small o rings at each end.
There is a plastic washer that goes between the printhead and the screw which secures it and the carriage. Helps the printhead move for adjustment purposes. I am referring to the small black O ring that sits inside the bottom of the damper. It seals the damper to the filling spike on the printhead, thus permitting the required air tight seal.
WELL FINALY,,,,,,,ITS FIXED..there was some air bubbles in the catrige and the CABLE that brings the ink, I took out the LITTLE INK COINTAINER but and left the cable that brings the ink to it BE CONNECTED.and took something injection shot or what is it called that I could SUCK the ink trought the cable and the little inc cointainer. after that everything worked just fine.

Hi.
EPSON Technical center in Brussels asked me 1800 to repair my old SC3000. Everything as to be changed. They proposed my a new one at 1000 , but I refused because I m working on Mac, and there are no more drivers for Leopard.
I ve dowloaded the technical manual, and I ve found it was the HP Home Position sensor that was defect. It cost me 3 for a new one. After 2 hours of working, the SC3000 was like a new one, and printing was perfect.
I just need the adjustment program Can somebody help me.

We have the printheads available. Please contact us directly for further information. By the way, Epson has recently tightened up the ability to order printheads for this unit. It is necessary to provide the printer s serial number when ordering replacement printheads.

Hope this dosent post twice.
I can think of no better explanation for that symptom than a defective printhead. Other remote possibilities are liquid on the printhead or it s ribbon cable or a partially unplugged ribbon cable or corroded ribbon cable contacts or a defective circuit board.

Pulled the head all jets were open ok.
Ordered and installed a new head and now works.

Even without the Epson driver, XP will find the printer on it s own and install the microsoft driver for it; Win98 will probably do the same. The printer doesn t show up as one of the installed printers when viewed in that folder through the Control Panel. - Scotty
Do you just need the adjustment program to replace the black print head on the SC3000, or is there a different one that i need. And how do you purge the head after installation.

To get the best performance, a special adjustment program has to be used. It is DOS based. You may be able to find it on the internet. Running an initial ink charge or cleaning cycles should properly fill the printhead with ink.
That is exactly what I needed to know, THANKS. I was able to find the program very easily and I m glad that I don t really have to purge the head. I took it in to a repair shop and they told me that after installing the new head they would have to run two full ink cartridges through the head to purge it before normal use. I thought that sounded kinda strange.

On the second screen press the down arrow key once to select EAI as the destination and press the enter key.
On the third screen just press the enter key which will have selected the option to Perform

Does anyone know where to purchase replacement parts for the Epson Stylus 3000 especially the Pump/Cap Assembly 1036752.
It seems that if the old, worn out cap assembly does not seal off the print head, it will allow some dry-out in the nozzels and that will cause the nozzel-check to mimic a bad print-head just food for thought. I just fixed one old printer with a new cap assembly I bought several years ago. It saved me a big hassle with the printhead replacement.
Any all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
It s crazy I am still printing with these ancient printers but those 4 powerful colors are fantastic.

How do you do a self test an Epson 3000.
Turn the machine off. Hold the lf/ff button down for several seconds while you turn the machine back on. It will keep printing pages until you turn the printer back off.
I have replaced the black printhead and the pump/ capping station, and i still have no black ink on test. any suggestions. new ribbon cable seems to be ok or new circuit board. Any help would be appreciated.
Does it print color. No color or black usually means a bad mainboard. Did you do an initial ink charge. While the printer is on remove all four cartridges THEN turn it off. Turn it on and reinstall the ink cartridges. The printer will run for about 8 minutes as the ink lines are charged. Do not interrupt the process.
Generally a bad ribbon cable will still let some nozzles print.
There could be a leak somewhere in the line. The needle that punctures the cartridge could have come loose, 1 of the four O rings could have failed, or the damper could be leaking.

Apparantly, that ink charge thing was the last piece of the puzzle for me, because, once I started that function, I saw black ink appear on the capping station, and once it was done, I succesfully printed the test page. I was beginning to get dejected about the whole thing, but now I ve got a great printer with all new wear parts.

Hi, I have tried two different usb to parallel cable adapters and my 3000 still will not print through usb. Mmm, it works fine through parallel cable on xp, but refuses to print or do anything other than report errors. What am I doing wrong. Any hep would be well appreciated. Best wishes, Kenneth
If my memory serves me correctly, this printer requires a special USB adapter sold by Epson.
Hi, Cheers. got it working fine now, had to set to virtual usb printer in printer properties. Easy enough. Though one problem still exists. The joey windows vista driver does not allow setting custom paper sizes only the ones listed. With XP epson driver can set any size one likes, but built in vista driver does not seem to support this, Any suggestions would be well appreciated.

I have observed that the black print head on my Stylus 3000 produces dark stripes. The pattern is very irregular and it seems that there is no systematic behind it. I have the impression as if an individual nozzle or several nozzles do - from time to time - emit ink continuously even if they should not print. Does anybody have an idea. Is that a problem of the printhead or a problem of the cable.

After opening up my unit, cleaning the heads manually with rolled/flattened blue towels and windex and turning my 3000 back on, it continuously runs in a cleaning mode. All the CMY ink wells in the jetting box are empty, K is running like a river.
I downloaded the tech manual, though that did not help this situation.
You may have initiated an initial ink charge. It will take about 8 minutes to complete. You can put a piece of tape over the 1/4 X 1 rectangular hole on the bottom of the cartridge where a little tab sticks out when the cart is empty. This will trick the printer into thinking the cartridge is still full.
Let it run for 10 minutes and see if it stops after that.
That did take longer than normal cleanings
I have K color working OK on regular, photo leaves streaks.
CMY are not pulling into the jet reservoirs at all. The cartridges are new and have the tape over the hole as recommended.

Mine is leaving black smudges randomly on the paper. Anyone have any idea how i can fix this. I have disassembled the printer completely and cleaned up all the head cleaning part, but it still does it. Any ideas.
I have been reading through all the questions and comments because I have a black print head that doesn t print. I have read about cleaning the print head with windex and want to try it. I also have a cleaning kit solution that is supposed to be injected into the print head with a syringe that I would like to try. What I need is the instructions for disassembling the cover to get to the print heads. Can anyone help me with this procedure.

Remove all detachable plastic parts. Release the 2 clips that hold the control panel in place look along the top of where the ink compartment door is when closed. Remove it to get to 1 hidden screw. 4 screws in the front and 3 in the back. Use a screw driver to release 2 clips from the left and right side from the bottom of the printer. The case opens from the front by pivoting on hinges in the back.
I would suggest getting the service manual. I posted a link several months ago in this thread.
Does anyone know where I can get replacement o rings for the ink lines which go into the dampers of the print heads. Compass Micro, nor any other source I know of have them.

Will a color print head from the Epson 7500 work in the color position of an Epson 3000
Yes the 7500 printhead will work on a 3000. So will the SC 800, SC 850, SC 1520, 5000 pro, 7000 pro, 9000 pro and 9500 pro.
What files must be on a floppy to run the 3000 head adjustment program. I seem to have too little disk space left after I set up a bootable floppy, even after deleting all but the minimal files needed to boot.
Thanks for the really great help from all these postings, and especially from Sigmo, who is most generous with his time and knowledge in all things stylus 3000.
The problem with my printer is solved. I had erratic nozzle checks which are usually caused by air leaks, and after resolving that problem, changing the color print head solved the remaining poor nozzle checks. Below is an outline of the steps. I could have saved many hours if I remembered the KISS principle. WARNING. Leaving the print head immersed in windex on the capping station in an attempt to unclog it left me quite a surprise. Overnight much of the ink drained out of my waste tubes and onto the floor. Do not leave the printer unattended when soaking the head this way as a suction is set up, which draws the ink out of the carts.
1 Follow the manual and remove all external covers and plastic parts. In the following steps refer often to the manual. You will be able to keep the cover off while you are testing. Don t reassemble until you are sure the printer is working.
2 Turn on the printer and place a sheet of paper in it. While the Print head assembly is off the capping station, pull the power plug, which will allow the printer carriage to move freely on the track. Remove the pump assembly by removing 2 screws and pulling straight up firmly. There is a small plastic clip on the bottom of the pump. A good pull straight up will let it release. Soak overnight in warm water. Flush warm water thru the pump hoses with a syringe. Clean the seals around the capping stations with water or windex, and make sure to wash off excess windex. While the pump is out you can connect extension hoses to the drain hoses which go down to the pads, drill a hole out the side of the printer base and run these hoses to an external bottle. Replace the pump into the printer. No more ink waste pad to worry about but see warning above. Use a large waste bottle.
3 Remove the 2 screws that hold the print head cover in place, and remove the cover. I replaced all the dampers those little tanks that fill with ink and deliver it to the print heads Over-tightening the nuts on the o rings from the ink hoses to the dampers seems to have caused the air leaks. loosening and carefully hand tightening the nuts seems to have cured this. These tiny o rings are hard to get. They are 646 on the 4th page of the exploded diagram PN 1074432. I did not have to replace them. Fill the lines with ink by sucking it into the dampers with a syringe which is tight fitting into the bottom opening the hole that fits on the print head spike. Do not damage the o ring at the bottom of the damper. Be sure the dampers are about half full with no bubbles in the delivery hoses. Or do an initial fill procedure.
4 Unfortunately this did not cure the whole problem. I had to change the color print head after all, which meant pulling the the dampers off again. I tried cleaning the old print head by flushing water thru it, but was not able to get a complete nozzle check after innumerable cleanings. My suggestion is to replace the print head when replacing or cleaning the dampers. The color print head is only 100 and the black one is less. I took the print head apart 4 or 5 times before I finally replaced the color head. I can do it in my sleep now.
5 Pulling a print head is not difficult. Load a piece of paper into the printer in case you spill some ink. If you are replacing the black head or damper, you must remove the clip that holds the ink lines to the print head. Be careful not to break the plastic guide. I had to glue it back. I was able to remove the color dampers without removing the ink lines from the clip. Remove the dampers by pulling them straight up with your fingers and a bent screwdriver. Do not damage the thin plastic on the sides of the dampers. Don t twist or you may break the spikes off the print head. They are tight but will come up.
6 To remove the print head remove the cable cover on the left side of the print head case by pulling its clip up and to the left. Remove the screw and washer holding the print head down. Remove the nylon washer under the brass washer. Don t lose it. Use a tweezers to remove the spring. There is a catch on the left rear side of the color head. Pull the head back and wiggle it up and out enough to grasp the flat data cable. Pull out the data cable.
7 Putting the new color head in is easy, it clicks into place. Write the print head voltage code down before putting the head in place. Carefully pull the data cable into the print head housing and push it into the socket on the print head, then work the cable back out of the case and seat the head. Don t forget the nylon washer under the brass washer and screw, and the spring. Reprime the dampers and replace them on the new print head spikes. Replace the cable cover. You don t have to recover the print head yet or ever, but I did eventually.
8 Run the Epson adjustment software as described in prior posts. At least enter the head voltage code obtained from the number printed on the side of the print head. You can do the various alignments at any time if necessary.
You can test the printer without reassembling the case. After consistent clean nozzle checks and maybe a few test prints, reassemble and fire away.

Yes I would like to recieve this info. I have an issue with black ink not printing even after replacing ink well.
Printer works great on regular paper but when using film the are 2 horizontal lines that appear in the same place whenever I try to print. I am using quality ink and the correct film. Do you think I need to replace the print head. Thank you in advance.

I know this post is old. But with all of this information, I had to say thanks before I asked my question.
This printer has been sitting in my friends garage for three years. You can obviously think what that did to this thing. No juice at all coming out of it.
With all of the information in this post, I got it running again.
Although, Joelwb might want to add, to pull the metal top plate whatever it s called off before trying to pull the pump out. I was scratching my head for half an hour, going two bolts, got that, what the heck now. Couldn t get it out without that thing off. Just make sure to put a folded towel under the head before you set it back down.
Thanks to that post and Sigmo s info, this thing is ripping again.
Now to my problem. Nothing prints centered. It s like one inch to the right, even when it s not connected to the computer and running diagnostic crud. The weird thing is, it seems to run the head cleaning utility in the right position. Anyways, does any one know how to get this thing centered properly again.
Push the right side paper edge guide all the way to the left until it clicks. It should be about one inch from the right side unless you re using 17 wide paper/film.

I inherited this 3000 as set up for B W with second party inks. It sat in the cold 50 degrees for several days before i got it and now prints very uniform fine black lines at the bottom section of the test strip. Several attempts to use the cleaning cycle have not cured it. Any ideas would be most welcome - thank you, Kelly
Try removing all four carts while the printer is on and THEN turn it off. Now turn on the machine and reinstall the carts. The printer will run for about 8 minutes while the printer performs the initial ink charge. This will purge out any bad ink while at the same time it may unclog a clogged pump and any clogged jets on the head.

After you remove the cartridges THEN turn it off install the cleaning carts and turn it on. Then repeat the process and install the ink cartridges. If there s hope that should do it. Good luck.

Hi to every one who seem enamoured with epson stylus 3000. I have recently purcahsed a secondhand one and doing a service as black did not print.I have the hood off etc waiting for an O ring to appear on the black end. In the black ink slide in cartridge bay there is copious amounts of black ink, I think it should not be there. when I took the black cartridge out I found a white nylon thin washer in the bay; would any one know if this is from anything in the cartridge bay. I tried this nylon ring on the black damper spike joint but it seemed far too big. according to whom i purchased printer from it hadnt been used for six months.

Beware though, or take notice, in the manual i got, the blackprint head is labeled with an line pointing to the colour print head and vice-versa this is a mistake isnt it.. also it advises to remove six one screws when taking off the printmechanism. make sure you have a long reach screw driver for this as the screw at the back between the blue and black ink cartridge bays can be difficult to get to. i also found a torch useful.
Could the nylon washer be the spacer from under the screw that secures one of the print heads.

I have not tried this yet, but instructions and cleaning solution for cleaning the print heads is available at the following web site. They say that using this cleaning procedure might restore the print heads to good working condition without the need for disassembly and readjustment.

I bought an Epson 3000 second hand. No yellow and black was printing so I cleaned and nozzle checked the inktheads several times. black seems to be going, but yellow didn t so I took of the whole of the print head and let it rest some while in some cleaning fluid. My question is: I have a print head part that nowhere seems to fit ; plastic, thin, transparent, 6x12mm /- 1/4x1/2inch, 4 holes in the middle.It came of from the downside printer head carriage. It seems to fit on the cr pw sensor board assembly next to the black print head but nothing to hold it in place. I put the printer head together again but the paper loader seems to fail since.Is this part essential or is another problem rising.
If someone knows the correct place of this small part please give a hint, thanks.
HI, well i got my epson 3000 back together after i did a nappie change, at first the carriage was all over the place and i was disapointed, however after several days of just sitting there I looked at the wires on the board which you have to pull out to take print assembley off and geuss what, a ribbion wire was out of its place, printer does everything as normal now except print, ink gets to dampers, waste ink gets to waste ink dump, all paper sizes and feeds regconised but no print on paper.
I am going to try cleaning print heads next. I now enven understand some of the adjustment programe and wow it talks to the printer. I have a manual martinus that i could send if you need it. When putting back on print assembly make sure all wires and ribbions are connected to their right place, some of the colour coded plugs dont match in colour to their sockets, make a note/diagram of where each goes before removal to avoid confusion.the service manual is very helpful and identifies which wires go where. all the best with it.

Hi, the item came from under the smallest of two oil cushions which keeps the carriage at the correct distance along the runner, its a spring to push the felt cushion to the runner.
I didn t touch any cable. I just unscrewed the runner and released the print head carriage to clean the print head in a saucer with some cleaning liquid. I didn t loosen any cable or print head color separate, the whole carriage was on the saucer.
How can I get dried ink out of my inkjet print head so I can print again. I want to get more technical information on inkjet printers, so I can easily solve minor problems and save my time and money.

not all inks are the same the chemical make up of them from one company to another can be different, this can produce an adverse reaction in the ink lines/heads/dumps to avoid such a reaction ie clogging and the like you should flush out all the old ink lines with a clearing fluid or cleaning cartridge, if you can test the reaction between new/differents inks and old and no adverse reactions occour then it maybe safe to use them straight away.
I have been searching the net on the best type of inks, carts, ink flow systems for my own particular use, I am not sure which are excatly the best but I am thinking of going for transparent funel fillable carts and mis archival inks. hope this snipet will help
Be careful using the clear cartridges because ink is very susceptible to uv light, especially pigment based archival inks.
Once it gets to a certain age it has a software flaw built into the system that will kill the machine anyway. After my last move I tried desperately and repeatedly to clean the heads because of lack of use,and caused a fatal error as Epson calls it. Machine gone like old friends. Anyway, good luck. poodlelvisThe printer does not have a software flaw. However, it does have a waste ink counter that will shut the printer down if it determines that the waste ink pads need to be cleaned or replaced. There are simple software resets available on the internet. Both the color and black print heads are replaceable on this printer.
Epson calls it fatal not me. For the money spent, it might as well be fatal. I didn t make this up. It happens. I ve had 3 different machines do it. My Chicago repair people said that it is a built into the Epson system.
Who would expect a fix is out there when Epson calls it a fatal error. One would hope there would be a little help from the manufacturer, not some dire warning attached.

Have a look in the service manual
See whether the paper select lever is in the correct postion.
The label on the top is the voltage code, and you need the latest version of the 3000 service program to input it to or read it from the printer.
i need some help. I have the latest adjustment software and the service manual I have changed the black and color printhead. entered the handwitten number on the side of the blak printhead ok. the color print head has a stamped number on the top and side - niegther alpha numeric number is accepted can somebody please advise.
You enter the alphanumeric number on the label on top of the
printhead. There is a way to do it through the adjustment software.
It s the screen before the one to enter black and color numbers and
it s for correcting the 720 microbanding problem. After you enter the number and hit enter you wait a few seconds and hit enter again.

Copy the files to a floppy and boot the computer to the floppy. You could also turn it into a CD boot image and boot to the CD if you don t have a floppy drive.

I ve tried creating the floppy and a cd already with those files. Neither will boot. I get a message to remove disk and reboot. I have used Windows to create a bootable floppy and ran the program after using that. Also used virtual PC and tried it under DOS 6.22, Win3.1 and WinME. Always the same result.
Find a windows 95 or 98 machine to run the program. I would think it would run under win me but have never tried. Creating the boot disk and copying the files to it should have worked too. Perhaps the floppy drive is no good. I ve ran into that problem before. Boot CD should have worked though. You can try downloading those files from Epson s FTP site. Not sure exactly where they are at anymore. I remember finding the files listed on a list.txt file I think. I tested my files I have for download and they work fine on my old PC s so I m really at a loss. If you are concerned about entering the voltage ID for the heads you can t hurt the heads or printer by having the incorrect voltage entered. You won t be able to set the manual alignments without running the program, but chances are the printer is already set right. Or at least close enough that it shouldn t matter. By holding down the pause button when turning the printer on will get you to more electronic alignment adjustments than are available through the printer driver utility. Or just find a 95 or 98 windows machine. Good Luck.
I have one of these printers, purchased new and used it sparingly for 2 years about 3 cartridge changes. It has been sitting in a closet in a bag since. I kept thinking I was wanting to do some backlight displays at some point for our clinic never happened and after going through the closet and remembering I should do something with it, I m trying to decide whether I really want to keep it any longer as it takes up so much space. what s an adjustment program.
My SC3000 is doing something I haven t seen brought up yet. I print black only for screen printing positives. But when I print, there is a small horizontal line that is at the top of whatever I print. For example, If I put 4 squares in a vertical line, there will be a white line running through the top of each one. If I put a stripe to the side that is higher up than the squares, they will print out just fine. So it only seems to affect the very top of what I print. Has anybody seen this.

this thread has been a great resource but i fear i found it to late.
i was having problems with my old black print head so i cleaned and cleaned and cleaned it. finally i took the it out cleaned it again at this point i had not found the service manual after i put it back in it stopped printing completely. so i got a new print head and went threw the install changed the voltage on the head and still nothing. i never use the color print head since i use this 3000 for printing film positives but i tested and they don t seam to be printing either. the printer goes threw the motions but i get no ink on the paper and i know its not clogged.
did i fry my main board. is there anyway to test to see if i did.
also i used a multimeter on the ffc cable to and it seams to be fine.
I had a similar problem after replacing a printhead. With the printheads in the capped position I clamped off the pump tube and used a syringe to pull ink through the printhead and out the small vent tube going to the cap. My guess is that primed the printhead because it worked after that. Did you use the adjustment software to change the voltage. How did it work for you.
my print heads are primed and still nothing this, thing is troublesome for sure.
I had an Epson sc800 that used the same printheads. It had a surface mounted fuse for each of the printheads. If priming didn t work that was the next thing I was going to look for. I don t think I found any reference to fuses in the SC3000 manual so disassembling the printer to look for them would likely have been my last attempt to repair it. Maybe someone with more experience can comment on that. Still would like to know about the adjustment software.
I work on these printers for a living and you have most likely fried the mainboard. If you got any moisture on the circuitry of the printhead the result will be what you described. Trying a known good printhead would be the next step then swapping for a known good mainboard. There is a fuse on the mainboard but only blows if the power supply has a problem not the printheads.
Did the printer print before. You may have a clogged pump. Removing it and cleaning it in the sink with warm water may help.

CLEANING SOLUTIONS REQUIRED:

1.PUMP TEST:
a Power the printer OFF, remove any paper. Remove the top cover. Disable printhead lock mechanism. Position the printhead to the left of the cap. to allow air valve to be open Soak the cap with CLEAN TAP WATER. Manually rotate the pump gear and observe the fluid drain from the cap. The cap will turn white and dry if the pump is working.
b To test if INK is flowing through the print head once the above is done. Place print head onto cap and insure that the air valve is closed. Manually rotate the pump gear and observe the ink return to the cap. The cap will turn colors corresponding to the I/C structure. If this doesnâ t work then the cap or air valve assembly may require cleaning. Follow the steps below to clean and flush the pump system. HOWEVER, if the cap does fill up with the Ink colors and NO NOZZLES fire. Inspect print head cable
connections.
This initial pump test will determine your next step. If the pump is not working at this point, you should remove and clean/ or replace the pump assembly. The pump should test good as outlined above before proceeding. I.e.; there is no sense recovering the printhead if the pump is bad.
2. CAP CLEANING:
a REMOVE and CLEAN THE CAP: Remove the CAP assembly and the Wiper Strip, carefully removing the ink tubing. Refer to applicable service manual. Clean the CAP and WIPER in a sink, flushing with plain water. We recommend this CAP Wiper cleaning step, whether the head needs flushing or not.
b If the printhead requires flushing, i.e.; the PUMP TEST worked OK, and you decide to do a complete flush process, then leave the CAP off and proceed to PART B. If not, replace the CAP assembly and the Wiper, and perform the NOZZLE TEST functions and cleaning cycles as necessary. If printing is not satisfactory at that point, you may decide to perform PART B at that time.
Proceed to PART B if the printhead requires flushing
PART B - RECOVERY/FLUSH PROCEDURE
1. GENTLY INJECT RED FLUID: Remove the CAP assembly If not already removed. Place a paper towel in the cavity where the cap was. Position the printhead over the towel. Remove any ink cartridges. Using a syringe with tubing, gently Inject red cleaning fluid into each color and black nozzle set. NOTE: If fluid can not be injected, install and puddle cap with fluid and let soak for 30 minutes. Retry step 1.
2. REPLACE THE CAP and RE-INSTALL THE OLD INK CARTRIDGES: Move the CR assembly to the left and remove the paper towel, dab the area dry with a clean towel. Replace the CAP assembly and reconnect tubes.
3. PUDDLE THE CAP: Fill the cap with red fluid. That is, â œpuddleâ the cap using the syringe.
4. SOAK OVERNIGHT: The printer is now ready to soak. The cartridges in place will keep the fluid in the head, and the red fluid in the cap will loosen any remaining residual ink. Leave undisturbed overnight
5. REMOVE THE CAP AND CLEAN: Yes.. take out the cap and clean it again, just like Part A
6. GENTLY INJECT CLEAR FLUID: Place a paper towel in the cavity where the cap was. Position the printhead over the towel. Remove any ink cartridges. Using a syringe with tubing, gently Inject one full syringe of clear cleaning fluid into each color and black nozzle set flushing out the red fluid.
7. REINSTALL CAP: Put the CAP assembly back in.
8. WITH POWER ON, INSTALL NEW CARTRIDGES: Place new ink cartridges in the printer using the correct install procedure.
9. PERFORM CLEANING CYCLES UNITL FRESH INK IS IN THE CAP: It usually takes two to three cleaning cycles until the cap is â œ bandedâ with color from the ink.
10. PRINT TEST: Power the printer up and perform a self-test or nozzle test. Perform additional cleaning cycles as needed. We
suggest printing a photo page as for final verification. Test page files can be found on the Epson Inkjet Training CD
by clogged pump you mean the pump cap that cleans the printhead. they work great and yes it did print before i took the head out and cleaned it, 3 of the nozzles were clogged or so it seamed but it did print. i cant be sure if it printed after that, i may have gotten a few lines but then it went dead for sure. i ordered a new head changed the voltage and nothing cart moves fine i can see that the pump cap is pulling ink out of the printheads but i don t get any ink on the paper, black or color. so is there a way to test my main board rather then assume its dead, witch it very well might be. i don t have another one handy to swap out.
If you put a new head in and it doesn t work it is most likely dead. I say most likely because usually the color will still print if you didn t get it wet too. Did it print before. Check the ribbon cable to printhead. Make sure the metal on the ribbon isn t folded back.
If you have an oscilloscope you can test it as per instructions in the service manual.

from sam broxtonhave you taken any of the ribbon cables out from the top of the board at the back of the printer, make sure they are all inserted as these can pop out if not correctly shoved in, also make sure that you have inserted the printhead back into the carriage properly and that the adjustment screw is not too tight and that the nylon washer is there, my advice is sigmo knows all on the epson 3000, i had one didnt work when got it, got involved with it got loads of head aches ink every where, etc in the end sold it and got one that was already working, if I had a choice i would by a new large format printer with warranty, the epson 3000 is good if it works and you want to trial canvass or large paper/different media printing to see what could be done but they do have a mind of their own, and they dont take thicj stuff iether; the only reason I still got mine is i got ten sets of ink with it and still on the first lot, now i just use it for experimental art printing, the manual is very confusing my advice get a new model if you can laying out on this one may just be as much as a second hand 4400
I think our 3000 has a dead head. We changed the ink to dye-sub stuff without doing a purge whoops and I think it clogged up.
Cleaned everything out, flushed through with cleaner and ink pulls into into the damper fine. I m quite sure it pulls through ink on each head clean tested by disconnecting damper from ink hose and so I guess the vacuum is ok. Water drains off the cleaning station too. But, absolutely nothing prints on black. Colours are fine.. is this the sign of a dead head.
I did take the head out and gently pulled through distilled water, and there was ink in there, but I wonder in all the fiddling about if there was a clog somewhere else, but I broke the head somehow..
May be the head, may be the mainboard as in the previous discussions. You will need a known good head to determine this.
Yeah, just read up. Hopefully not a mainboard, assume they are a lot more to replace than the head. Luckily we got the printer cheap..
You think any chance it could be some sort of blockage. I m thinking not, since the ink level on the damper goes down each time a clean is done, so we d surely be seeing something on the black head, even a couple of nozzles, if it wasn t dead.
If you see ink in the damper going down there ink is flowing. My experience is that if there s no blockage and no printing the problem is the mainboard. You will only be able to determine this by installing a known good head. Be sure to check the ribbon cable to the head. I ve worked on hundreds of these printers and I can count on one hand the number of heads that went bad and wouldn t print. What happens is people try to clean the head and get the circuitry wet or ink spills on the circuitry during shipping and this shorts out the head. While this does kill the head it almost always kills the mainboard too.

This is going to take a minute to properly explain, so please, get comfy first.
I have an Epson 3000. got it back in 2002ish. . used it like a work horse for 4 years, then it went into storage in late 2006, cleaned out, no ink, but still, storage. A few months ago,I got everything out of storage, when it came to the printer, I plugged it in, and turned it on, just to see what would happen. It charged my ink, and looked ready to go. I did a few cleaning cycles, and then this horrible noise came from it, and the little black box part that moves back and forth was stuck in the middle. I was unable to shut it off with the power button, so I unpluged it. I went to the printer shoppe down the block, explained the problem in detail and he agreed to look at it. I took it in and he kept it for 2 days, telling me that it needed a small part, and would be just fine. He said he even cleaned it out for me, on the inside as it looked a little dusty. Ok, great, no problem. I get it home, it was quiet, but in the few days that it was gone. . I had an issue with the ink, so I no longer had any to run cleaning cycles or antyhing. I unplugged it again, and it s sat, for 6 weeks. Couple days ago, I get a new order of dye sub ink, and I m all excited to go. I fill the bulk ink system great investment IMO and started a cleaning cycle. Same horrible noise, and can t turn it off by the power button. I unplug it again, and call the printer man. He agrees to look at it again, for more money of course, I take it in, he tells me the part that he replaced the first time, was faulty, and he changed it again. So the first visit was 120, the second 30. In the second visit though, I made him plug it in to his computer, to see if it worked properly. I told him he needed the driver, he said he didn t. Again, I m using dye sub ink, so he runs a test page, not one drop of ink on the paper. He says the lines are clogged. WE took the printer apart and I cleaned every tube and every line in the machine more complicated then it sounds most of them were clean, with very little in them, and when it came to the black box with the clear plastic ink holders in it. . all of them had ink except the black, so took that one out and ran it under warm water, and let it sit for about an hour, and it rinsed out fairly easy. We get everything put back together, he runs a test print. . nothing. Not a drop, a broken line. . nothing. He then tells me that all the heads are bad, and nothing I do short of replacing them will work. My question is. . how does he know that, if he doesn t have the drivers in to allow dye sub printing. Moving on. . he said there was one more thing he wanted to do, so a bit later, he tells me the printer is working perfectly and I can take it home. I wanted to plug it in there to test, but he said that was not possible at the moment, but if I got it home and there were still issues, to bring it back to him. I get home. . get the ink back in, go through all the motions, I turn on the computer, send a test print, and all that happens is. . the power light just flashes. That s it. Nothing else. The same thing happens for nozzle checks, and head allighnments.
Mind you, I just installed the drivers when I got home that night, my old business partner sent me the drivers for it. I installed them to the System 32/spools/driver file as directed and it shows the driver is installed. So. . what s the problem now. Again, I do not know if this guy even put the printer together correctly, and when I did call him, he agreed to look at it for another 60 and still stands by his position that it s the heads that are not working correctly. Please, if you can make sense out of this or can help, please do. My business and sanity depend on this printer. Thanks O.B.B.
You can run a printer self test to determine whether the
problem lies with the printer itself or some other source.
o If the test results are satisfactory, the problem lies in your
computer or its printer port, software settings, or the
interface cable.
o If the test pages don t print correctly, you may have a
problem with your printer.
Follow these steps to test the printer:
1. Load several sheets of paper in the paper tray.
2. Turn off the printer.
Caution:
Use paper that s at least 8.3 inches 210 mm wide.
Otherwise the print head will spray ink directly onto
the platen.
3. Hold down the LF/FF button and press the POperate
button to turn on the printer. Then release both buttons.
This prints the test pages at 360 dpi. If the test pages don t
print, turn off the printer. Repeat the button sequence, but
hold down both buttons for several seconds before releasing
them.
The first page prints on the first and last lines to measure
the page length. The next page contains a nozzle check
pattern and multicolored character samples.
To print test pages at 180 dpi, hold down the Load/Eject
button while turning on the printer instead of LF/FF. The
180-dpi self test prints in black.
Never turn off the printer while it is print ing. To end
the test, always press the Pause button, eject any
loaded paper, then turn off the printer.
4. After the second page prints, press the Pause button to stop
printing.
5. If the printer loaded any additional paper, press Load/Eject
to eject it. Then turn off the printer to end the test.
Ok, I did what you said. I held the LF/FF when I turned the printer on. It loaded some paper, and had there been ink on the paper, I d say it was doing what it was supposed to. It s been 20 minutes now, and it s still in there going, nothing is on the paper except the very edges where it looks like smears from somewhere inside, that shouldn t be there. It s by no means supposed to be there. However, again if there were ink, I d be upset. . it s like the printing starts about 3 inches in where the paper is, and continues about 3 inches past where the paper stops all over the roller. The noise is a bit harsh, where the black box goes all the way into the right side, behind the ink, it kind of slams into that position. Very harsh on the printer I would think. Is there a way I can do head cleanings from the printer. I tried to hold the button down for 5 seconds like it says, but nothing happens when I do that. I m still trying to do a head cleaning from the properties tab, but the power light just starts flashing.
The self test printing will continue until you pause the printer and turn it off.
I ve worked on hundreds of 3000 s and here s my take. One issue is the stainless steel guide shaft the carriage black box slides on needs lube. Sewing machine oil is the closest thing to the factory lube. Use a coffee filter to wipe the shaft off and apply a generous amount of oil to it. Lack of lube is what causes it to slam all the way to the right and make loud grinding noises.
When heads go bad they generally don t stop printing, they cause fine lines to be printed outside of the margins. I ve never seen both heads go bad at the same time unless ink gets spilled on the mainboard and that usually fries everything. Another thing that commonly happens is someone takes the printhead out to clean it and gets liquid on the head circuitry which will short out components on the mainboard causing the printhead to stop printing. The head may or may not die too.
The first place to troubleshoot is the pump. You mentioned the black damper didn t have ink in it after the ink charge which leads me to believe the pump may not be functioning correctly. The fact that the color dampers did and aren t printing is troubling.
If I had the machine here the first thing I would do is remove and clean the pump then install known good printheads. Since you don t have printheads that step isn t an option but you can check the pump and I will explain how in a second, but first I want to tell you not to take it back to that shop. That guy is jerking you around and clearly doesn t know what he s doing. Now as for the pump, the instructions I m about to give come right from Epson in material supplied to their printer techs. It mentions two types of cleaning solution to use. The A29 stuff is no longer available and and the red stuff is 80 and not worth the cost. You can use ammoniated windex mixed with 10 isopropyl alcohol instead for flushing.

The nozzle test works fine, I ve run the nozzle clean routine, flushed and wiped the parking sponges let the print head rest on soaked sheets removed lots of ink but black continues to be emitted. Best quality plain paper prints fine. Best quality photo glossy prints with fine black lines which viewed up close consist of a trail of dots across the page. setting the lever right hand to seems to slightly reduce the effect. Help please. Where now.
Do the fine lines extend outside of the print margin or all the way to the edge of paper.
If so you ve got a bad print head. If the lines are magenta it s the color head which is most common. Black indicates a bad black head. If you can send me a scan of the print I can tell you for sure.

OK, Now about some support for us Mac users. I notice any software download soft are for Microsoft users only. especially the adjustment software.
My os system now users Snow. Apple includes most printer drivers automatically. But the latest doesn t include the details as in the PPC list. such as print set up and paper,color management.etc.Just print.
Meanwhile I have my 3000 all apart. I did mange to get the blk to print. nozzle check works. but all 4/c print are weak, fadedso back to the service manuel to remove the pump and clean it. also remove to print heads for cleaning and also the feed linesI hope I succeed.

Your adjustments are way out on the photos on the bottom of that page, hope you changed them before sending the printers out. :-
Those really are what the adjustments should look like. It s fairly simple to know if your adjustments are correct - make an adjustment then print a test print/film. You can find all kinds of test prints on the internet.
The lines should meet, not cross half way between each other. For example, look at the black magenta one, the lines should run into each other.
Well, we are just gonna have to disagree on this one. Do the adjustments and print a test print to see for yourself. I used to modify factory new 3000 s and they came from the factory this way. It s really simple to prove. Print out test prints and change the adjustments and look at your results.
Do you have the service manual.
Look at sections 4.1.4 and 4.1.5 from page 117, all you need to know there.

All Epson printers with his type of adjustment have always been the same, the heads are not aligned in your example and this makes all of the other adjustments wrong also.

I have 3 versions of the English interpretations of the Japanese service manuals. I know what they say. I am only offering my personal experience here. I have been servicing Epson 3000 printers for a living nearly every day for close to a decade. Hundreds and hundreds of them. In order to produce the best photographs or darkest films with the cleanest halftone output for burning to a screen, this is how I adjust my printers. Anybody reading this post who is repairing his or her 3000 can and should print out a target photograph or film separation after making adjustments in order to determine if they are getting the best quality from their machine. Have you even worked on one of these machines. I just tried to make them line up so I could print an example of the quality difference and it is physically impossible to set the angular and linear adjustment levers to a position where the horizontal lines will line up. Lastly, if you go to the test pattern print out section of the adjustment software and print out the check pattern for A4 and check pattern for A3 it is clearly obvious how the patterns should look. Pay close attention to pattern 5.TAKASA of the A3 print out in relation to the Head Linear Adjustment BK-M print out after making that manual linear adjustment. Now make your manual Angular adjustments and look at the pattern 2.BETA BLACK and 3.BETA C-M-Y-B of the A4 Check Pattern print out and 2.BETA GRAY 1440DPI 720DPI and 4.BLACK YMC ANGULAR of the A3 Check Pattern print out. These prints will make it clear how the alignments should be made.
Worked on one. Worked on a million and one so have aligned enough heads in my time.
Not worth arguing about anyway because these machines are so old now, but Epson still use the same adjustment patterns on the newer models. Take a look at some of those, you will see the lines on all the patterns need to line up too.
To Anon, i m guessing you have the DOS version of the service program. I remember that you have to have the line which enables ANSI.SYS either in the autoexec.bat or config.sys, can t remember which, been a while since i used it. I think it was just a c: folder name ansi.sys line in one of them. Without it you would just get a screen of random characters and it would be virtually impossible to use the program. There is a version of it that runs under windows which is much easier to use.
I have all the Epson training CD s which contain all versions of the adjustment software and none are windows based. Only the DOS based which run under Windows. There is also no Windows version available on the Epson US website for Epson Authorized Technicians. If there is one available outside the US I couldn t get it because I m only authorized on Epson s US technical website.
Have you tried contacting your computer manufacturer for assistance booting to the disk. Try creating a boot disk on your computer and try booting to it. If you are successful add the files on my disk which are not present to it and add the following to the autoexec.bat file:
To edit the autoexec.bat rename it autoexec.txt and open it in any text editor. When you are done change the name back to autoexec.bat.

I wasn t having a problem creating working boot discs with other files but the program still didn t run correctly. I finally got it working today by using ANSI.SYS 1988 1.6kb from DOS 3.3, a DOS 5.0 boot disc I was using at the time and the adjustment program ver 3.1 files you provided. The screen is now multicolor and text is properly displayed. The test patterns printed but my printheads are badly clogged again from sitting so long.
Did you replace the print heads or a repair center.
If you replaced the print heads yourself can you please
send me info on how to do the replace the print heads.

Would a leaky cartridge not allow the print heads to print properly.
I ve tried every kind of cleaning on the printer and the only thing I can find is that the black cartridge leaks. That s the color that won t print.
I ve been trying to clean my black print head. I ve run the cleaning cycle several times, but the black head won t print. There is ink in the damper but it s like the head is clogged. I ve tested it to see if the pump works and yes, it works.
I even ran the test of taking the cartridges out and replacing them while the unit is on. The one thing I noticed is that the black ink cartridge is leaking. Can that mean that the system is not able to get any ink out of the cartridge for being air in the tubing. Should I replace the black cartridge before trying anything else.
I would replace the cartridge then the black print head.
My Epson SC3000 started acting up after a small poster job for my daughter. The black started to leave blanks and I thought it was a blockage as I don t use it that much.
When I did a nozzle pattern check, it printed the first vertical line, it missed the first black rectangle completely and printed the second rectangle perfectly.
After a few unsuccessful cleaning cycles I decided to buy a cleaning kit with a syringe and after some improvisation managed to very gently flush the black head out through the damper without removing the top.
After putting the tube to the damper back on I was unable to get any black output at all.
I have run two initial charge cycles and there is still no black output. I then removed the top and cleaned everything in sight including washing out and drying the ink pads. with the result that the colour output is better than it has ever been but still no black.
I have checked that the pump s are working using the water on the cap method and they seem to be fine.
I made sure that the O ring was still in place when I re-connected the ink supply.
I have reached the conclusion that the black ink head has failed and I am just looking for some confirmation of that before I buy a new print head.
I have the manual and the bootable software, which I will try before I purchase, so I will probably attempt the replacement myself.
Any thoughts anybody.
Well, replacing the black cartridge seemed to do the trick. No more leaky black ink when I remove the cartridge. I ran the test on it, and VIOLA. the black printed.
But then I tried printing something from Illustrator and no black, it would just print black as a combination of CMY, which was really horrible. I tried printing it several different ways and could not for the life of me figure out why the black would not print.
Then I tried Color Sync and it printed beautifully with the black.. Finally.
Countyman - The only real way at this point to know if the black head has failed is to replace it. Sadly it could be much worse. If you injected cleaner through the head and the laminate inside failed then you filled the inside of the head with liquid. If that is the case and you applied power to the head then you may have fried the mainboard. One thing you can do is remove the head and inject cleaner through it. If fluid comes out anywhere other than the nozzles it s bad, or if it seems to only come out the nozzles then you turn the head upside down and fluid pours out the back this too is bad. You can buy an epson stylus color 800 off ebay for less than the cost of a new head. That printer uses the same heads. You could go that route for around 30.
Sigmo - I have fitted a new black print head and it s working fine. Any tips for the calibration process. The angle adjustment levers are not very accessible, do you have to lift off the damper each time you make an adjustment or can you remove the small black cube on the front of the CR to gain access.
All you do is loosen the screw on the head the use your finger to reach under the front of the lever. You lift up and slide left or right to get the proper alignment. There s two angular adjustments in the front and a linear adjustment on the side which moves the color head. It is much easier to move than the two in the front. i need some help with my epson stylus color 3000.
i just put new cartridges but it is printing really faint and choppy. choppy as in, there are a lot of line separations.
have you heard of this happening before.

First, thanks to Sigmo, I read all his threads, and it was so interesting.
This is my problem with my Epson 3000:
I bought it recently. Color prints were really bad, and nothing at all in black.
I install new print heads black and color without adjustemnents.Then black print were good, but nothing in colors. No ink in dampers. I got out the print heads another time, and then, discovered your threads about print heads. So, I made an initial startup, colours ink goes to dampers and colours prints were nice.
But now, nothing in black. Damper black is half full.
I change ribbon, because it was dammage at the end, near black print head. I made adjustement with dos program, but nothing in black. I remove black head and push air through the tube, ink goes away from nozzle, so ink goes well.
So: 1st: I broke the print head after installing without adjustement, or because bad ribbon.
2nd: Main board is out of order, due to ribbon or head problem.
How can I test which part is out of order, or what adjustement to do to solve the problem.

Patsix, Not using the adjustment program will have no effect on the printhead. It only fine tunes the quality of the printing process.
Take a look at the pump cap mechanism. put some water on the pads and run a cleaning cycle. Then look at the pads. If the water does not get sucked down on both pads ink is not being pulled through the printhead properly.

Just a little question, to be sure it is not a problem with black printhead, is it possible and safe to connect the ribbon of color printhead, on black printhead to see if something print small lines, dots. On the main board, the end of ribbon seems to be quite same.

How can I tell if I have dead printheads.
Switching the cables will not work. The only real way to know is to install a known good print head. Go find an old Epson stylus color 800 and take the head out of it to test. It is the same head.
My problem is my epson 3000 started printing what is mostly splotchy black boxes were there should be black text both when printed from the computer or even from the printer self test, the colors print great HELP.
Check the pump for proper operation and do a nozzle test print. If after doing head cleans it doesn t get better it may need to be services. Please read previous posts.
Your pump may be clogged. Running the cleaning fluid through may have actually damaged the main board. If a head is bad it can short out a fuse on the mainboard. I sell black heads for 90 and color heads for 150. If the board is bad MacMedia may be able to repair it.

Thank you for your information. But really, I don t understand why all is right when printing a letter from Word, or printing a circle from Publisher, and so bad quality when printing a pdf file, or jpg the two print heads are brand new
Do you get the same effect when printing the images to another printer. If so, the original images are the problem. Hope this helps.

Settings can change from one program to another on the same computer. If that s not the case I m not sure what to say. You say both heads are new.
Did you clean the capping station and wiper blade before installing the heads.

If I look carefully with a magnifier, I can see that the ghost image is made of color, and not black.

My guess is one of the heads isn t seated correctly or adjusted correctly. If it s a logic board issue it may not be worth having it repaired. I ve never seen a logic board problem manifest in this way.

One more time, I think you are right. I moved gently print heads and I saw the prints worst.
So I will try to put print head correctly.
First: Is the spring putting the print head in correct position and then is it correct to block the head in this position with the screw.
Second: The color print head is not secure with the screw. It can move gently, pushing by the spring. Is that OK, or does the print head be blocked. In this case I will have to add a some spacer.
After, I suppose I have to make adjustements for both print head.
Last question, do you think the problem is the color head or black head.

I m not sure which head is to blame. When I install the heads I put the carriage to the right but not all the way. Maybe an inch off. If it is all the way the capping station will interfere with seating the head. Maybe put the carriage in the middle to be safe. Next I install the color head first. I slide the ribbon cable through the slot on the left of the carriage and attach it to the head. Next I seat the head. Next I set the nylon white washer in the circular recess where the screw secures the head. Next I install the screw but not tight. Next I install the spring which should push the head into the correct position and tighten the screw. Now I install the black head in the same manner except I don t connect the ribbon cable until after the head is installed. That s it. When making the manual adjustments be sure to loosen the screw first and don t forget to tighten after the adjustment.

Some additional thoughts in addition to Sigmo s instructions. Before tightening the screws on each printhead, give the head a gentle wiggle to make sure they are properly seated. You may find it a bit easier to plug the black cable into the printhead before installing it in the carriage. Finally, should adjustments be made that require moving the lever on the right side of the carriage, be sure to loosen the color head screw before moving the lever lest you do damage. Hope this helps.
I ve got an Epson Stylus Photo 1400. I need to buy a cleaning kit for it but there are 2 kits. 1 for DURABRIGTH printers and 1 without. what is Durabright and does my printer have this.
The Durabright inks are long lasting, smudge proof, instant drying, waterproof and light resistant. This unit uses the newer Claria hi-def dye inks which have many of the same characteristics. I would go with the kit for the Durabrights.
About my problem of ghost image.
I made a print test which shows the real problem.
With publisher, I draw a black line, and then on the same line I draw a color line offset right 3cm red then blue, then yellow
The sc3000 prints the test, and I can see that the color line is under the black line, about 1mm. It s really a problem with position of print head as Sigmo said
I will buy a head carriage assy, because the screw for black head cannot be tighten plastic broken, and there is no white spacer.

How did you clean yours. where should I stick the seringe. I took the front cover off, I can see all the parts but I dont see where to pump in the solution.
When printing to film, the ink is streaking, or smearing. In the past I cleaned the print head and it s solved the problem. Not so any more. I have set the adjust level to and it s no longer help either. The print heads were all replace about 8 months ago. Yes this beast is old but has done wonders. HELP
It is probably time for service. If the heads were replaced and the capping station and wiper blade were not cleaned then heads will decline in print quality faster. A last quick fix before service is to remove the ink carts while the machine is on then turn it off. Reinstall the carts and turn it on then let it go through the 8 minute charge cycle. The test print run directly from the printer is good, but if I print anything from my PC it s just a bunch of horizontal lines spread over few pages. We bought this new years ago. Been a good machine. Today went to print when it got halfway through the print job it squealed like a horn and the print head was far off to the right. Everything shifted to the right printed off paper. Did this for 3 of lines squealed again and went back to original printing area. All the ink comes out right. We print on 17 wide rolls and go 32 long. Please if anyone has an idea.
drafterIn all likelihood the printer is losing it s home position mid print due to the carriage binding. Clean and relubricate the carriage rail with a non gumming oil and you will most likely be OK. Hope this helps.
hello, i have been trying to get this printer going again. the black was clogged in the drain line and wasn t printing at all, basically took the drain lines out de-clogged then soaked the drain pads in hot water and put a windex soaked napkin under the heads. everything seems to be printing ok except i now am getting streaking in all colors and black.. the colored prints where fine beforehand. Also have been running multiple head cleanings. and I m using a water based sublimation ink btw.. any help would be great kinda at a loss for words as to what it could be.
